Billed although not insured after policy cancelled

Good day<br> <br> In a nutshell. My policy was cancelled at end April 2015 and as a result I was not insured for most, if not all of May 2015. I was not aware that the policy was cancelled and only found this out when I requested a change to the policy. The policy was then re-instated late in May 2015
