Beware Old Mutual Insure!
Avoid this insurer unless you' re happy to wait nearly a year to reoccupy your storm-damaged house! Our rented home was flooded with mud during the April KZN floods. Despite timeously submitting a claim, our landlady has been unable to get Old Mutual to appoint one or more reputable contractors to make the house habitable. For 8 months she has not received rent - and we've had to scrounge alternative accommodation. There's no structural damage, just blocked drains from piles of sand, and superficial staining of floors and walls. Oh, and a still-gaping hole in the roof from a fallen branch. It seems Old Mutual is determined to protect its cashflow, by endless delays, appointing piece-meal contractors at lowest cost who never complete a project, bur cause further damage and abandon the site. A living nightmare

Still with a hole in the roof, black mould engulfing the ceiling below, open holes chopped through both bathroom walls, a back door that is so swollen it cannot close, an electric gate that receives no power, filthy floors and walls, great mounds of sand where pretty gardens once flourished, no water tank or pump – and not even a wash-line!
Congrats Old Mutual Insure!
You have admirably succeeded in turning a perhaps one month job for a half-decent local contractor into a 10 month nightmare of ineptitude, lies, thievery and negligence by “contractors” from as far afield as Newcastle and Durban.
And have you waived or refunded one cent of the premiums you extract so liberally and religiously every month for the past 10 months of “cover”?
The hell you have!
