R300 for a R800 suitcase?

My suitcase got damaged by MSC on our recent trip and was told to claim from their insurance company, Hollards. The suitcase is about R800 but considering the inconvenience of not using the wheels(broken) on it, our holiday was a slugfest. When i managed to apply for the insurance where it felt like you are treated like a ******** with all manner of questions we were told to pay a access of R500 on a R800 claim. We got paid R300 for R800 suitcase, you cant even buy a toaster for that. I have asked MSC via e-mail to pay for the access at least but no response. MSC on board service is amazing but if you are not their customer anymore you nothing more than a thorn in the foot. Those taking a trip make sure that if your stuff is damaged that you are compensated the access at least while on board.
