MSC Christmas Cruise. What a disaster our third MSC cruise but never again

My wife and were on the MSC Orchestra Christmas cruise and what a disaster. I am only writing this review now as I have been in hospital with acute diarrhea and dehydration as a result of the cruise. Lets start with a few positives the ship is great and the cabin fantastic but the problem is mainly overcrowding. The ship was built for 2700 passengers then refitted by adding more 4 berth cabins to 3200 passengers but from Durban 3500 passengers were squeezed in. Embarkation in Durban was terrible, had to present passports 8 times in never ending and when trying to walk up steep gangway to ship with hand luggage there was no MSC staff to assist the elderly passengers. We boarded at about 10:00 and the cabins were not open until 13:00. With 3500 people in 2 lounges it was not long before the ladies toilets on decks 5 and 6 were totally blocked. The Daily Program was often incorrect ie saying we were in Portuguese Island when we had already left. The ship had no "still" fruit drinks only "sparkling" which I have to avoid due to illness. Although their are plenty of bars most are closed until 18:00 which results in the bars that were open being totally overcrowded. My wife and I were never able to get a seat near the pool owing to the total overcrowding. This also applies to the restaurant near the pool which was total chaos again due to overcrowding and the food was disgusting, mainly leftovers from the main restaurants.. The food in the main restaurant was good but passengers were allowed in to dinner even when the dress code was "elegant" in shorts and slops ( I took a suit) . The charge for the cheapest "Wi Fi" on the ship was USD50 or R750. Although the cabins were clean our cabin attendant obviously stole items out of our bar fridge as all we had used was the 1 litre water but we were informed by her that we had eaten most the snacks and many of the drinks., Although this was advertised as a Christmas Cruise it was a Happy Holidays Cruise with no traditional Christmas Food on Christmas day and no mention of ' Christ" although this is an Italian Ship Generally the waiters were not good especially in the 20 hour restaurant where they were actually useless and unhelpfully. If the ship had had 1000 less passengers the trip would have been good except for me getting bacterial diarrhea on the ship which resulted in me getting an almost R1000 hospital account from the ship plus days in hospital on a drip to dehydrate me when getting home. Also beware of using your Credit Card to get your MSC Cruise Card as I now have a ***** case against MSC for R4883 or more. This will be a separate review.
