Unpaid account

I had an account with Mr Price that I stopped paying in 2013 due to loss of work, I've been recently in employed and wanted to get a home loan and was told I owe Mr price, when I went to there so I could settle my account, I was told I was not on their system. My credit report said I was 9 months in arrears even though it's been 5 years now, it's like that keep refreshing it so that it does not get scratched off after the 5 year period stipulated by law. I have no idea which lawyers they have used if I have been handed over.
