Umlungu money? Not welcome anymore?
I was just shopping at Mr Price in Campus square shop number 448. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!
I am an account customer, also using my associate card. This is a transaction that requires authorisation with good reason. I had one item. I get to the till, the mPos is on the counter. The staff member using the mPos was decent, friendly and helpful, props to her. She announced to me that I would need to use the till for this transaction, which is understood. She then goes to the mic and calls the cashier for the till. She arrives promptly. All of a sudden, the cellular champ jumps up out of nowhere and quickly rings his cellphone transaction. I don't like getting cut off, but sure enough that's okay. But when the (I'M PRAYING IT'S NOT THE MANAGER) got there, she was so rude. Her user code is MALEK (I only know this from my slip as she was not wearing uniform, nor a name badge). When she gets to the till, she engages with the cashier in her native tongue. I don't know the language all that good, but I could make out a few words. "Umlungu" (being a white person), "shame", and then she was complaining about something regarding the authorisation, mixed in alongside a massive conversation beyond my comprehension skills. She gets to the till, scans her card, and leaves. Then the lady made a mistake and had to redo the scanning of my card. She calls the manager back. She gets there. I am now very annoyed. I greet her, now for the second time. After getting no response, I raise my tone at the manager with a loud, clear, and audible "Hello. How are you??!" She ONLY THEN responds, "Hi im fine.". Really not what I expect as someone who knows and loves Mr Price. Given that this was my first time shopping at this store, I am confident in saying that I won't return there anytime soon.
Really. This is not acceptable. If my "umlungu" money is not welcome at Mr Price, please tell me. It's such a great pleasure for me to go into PEP and get THE BEST SERVICE you could possibly imagine. Just tell me. I won't go back if it's a problem. Really, I promise you that I won't burden the system.
