Signature on Receipt.
Good Day.
Yesterday (Sat 02-09-17) I visited your Mvusuludzo store to purchase a gift voucher for a birthday party which I was already late for. The transaction went off smoothly until I had to append my signature on the receipt. Apparently my signature did not match the one on the back of the card. This is according to the Cashier (Relic), whom held onto my store card while he insisted that the two were not a match. I tried to reason with him and even went on to pull out several cards from my wallet to show that a human being's signature cannot ever be the same but he was not having any of it.
Being young, I understand the need for cashiers to validate the rightful ownership of the card when making payments, however I felt like his failure to validate my identity before concluding the transaction and looking for a fault or mismatch in my signatures was completely unnecessary and time wasting on my part. In a store packed with other customers I felt like he was being treated as a crimanal who stole someone else's card and paid with it. Seeing that am not getting anywhere with him I asked to speak to the manager, that's when I was given back my card by a lady whom I presumed was the supervisor.
Perhaps I'm missing the bigger picture here so I took the liberty of finding out the importance of having to sign the receipt. With all due respect to the MRP company policy which still requires us to sign receipts , I found that the practice was developed to help minimise chargebacks from customer disputes. However I believe that the practice of customer disputes is either minimal or non-existent in this country or atleast in the part of the country where I live and my basis for that is that your stores are equipped with CCTV and it would be foolish for anyone to dispute a purchase they rightfully made.
My overall feeling about this "signature on receipt" is that I find it unnecessary and outdated as signatures can be easily forged. More especially in this day and age where everything is moving digitally and Card-Not-Present transactions are fast becoming a norm. If the company is really concerned about security or minimising chargebacks from ********** use of cards, i think that presenting an ID still seems like the best way of verifying card ownership or better yet, adapt the Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS) as banks do and use biometrics.
Bottomline is, during my last visit to one of your stores, I felt like a ******** and my time was unnecessary wasted. And as a customer these are not good feelings at all.
Thank you. Nathaniel_K
