returns and exchanges being refused

I was at Mr Price Eersteriver today, I took back a pair of shoes that i have bought on credit to exchange for either a bigger size or something to replace the value. The staff advised that I needed to pay a R112 before I can exchange or take something else. This I feel is very unfair because the shoes are in brand new condition and I returned it within the 30 days return period. They then took the shoes and I left the store with nothing as I did not have money to pay for an exchange. Now this means that I bought this shoes on credit, but I do not have the shoes. So, this will be added to my bill month end meaning I will be charged to pay for an item that I do not have and was refused to have it exchanged for something else.
