POOR MANAGEMENT!!!
As a former employee, I was disgusted with the amount of disrespect I received from Cradlestone Manager Jacques a month before lockdown began. He had visited our store in Cosmo Mall to help conduct the store's stock take. I was off on this particular day but had promised my fellow associates that I would come in and help search for codes that had been **********, which is something I normally do for them as I was known to acquire them faster than most. I was in by 08:00am. Jacques went on to ask why I wasn't in uniform so I explained that it was my off day, he asked me why I was off during stock take( associates don't get an off day until stock take is through), I explained that I worked in a different department. He asked no further questions and we both continued with what we had been busy with. A while later I offered to keep watch of the fitting room and told the other associates to go help where they could as they had more work to do on the floor. My manager saw me standing there and said nothing because she had often asked me to do so as well. Hours later I got tired of standing there so I called another associate to stand in my place while I sat down. My manager then walked up to me and rudely told me to leave the store as I was off and the visiting managers are unhappy with my presence there. I found it very odd that they would have an issue with me helping out. I told her I would leave, I just had to finish one small thing on the Ipad( The manager herself had asked me to help other associates with this Maths aptitude course because they were busy and I apparently was not), 5 minutes later she comes back and starts pulling my arm roughly in front of customers and other staff, I told her to release my arm and not to pull me like some kind of animal, she said she would pull me if she wanted to. She let go and asked me if I thought she was lying( she has told me countless lies before, which I have confronted her for so she knows I don't trust her) I responded yes because it didn't make sense that they would kick out and show such hostility to someone who was only helping, visiting staff had even joked about how I must love my job to volunteer on my off day. I wanted to make a purchase so we then proceeded to walk to the caskdesk whereby she whispered something to Jacques(Cradlestone Manager) about me making it seem like she's lying that he(Jacques) had asked me to leave. I asked my manager if I did something wrong by helping. This is when Jacques responded, asking if I was talking back to my manager( I wasn't even talking back, I was just asking what wrong I had done by helping). Jacques went on to call me arrogant and other defamatory words and I again asked what I had done wrong. He just became more angry saying if I worked in his store he would've handled/shown me, he said he would call my area manager. I was unable to make the purchase because the cashier told me to make my purchase another day before I make them angrier. I cried my way home because I regretted waking up so early only to be kicked out in such a manner. I later texted my area manager and told her about the days event, she told me to write a statement, which I did the following day. The area manager visited the store later that week and explained to me that Managers become wary when staff members come in on their off days because they do not want to be accused of forcing staff to work on off days and that I understand completely, what I don't understand is why they didn't just tell me that? Why did I have to be dragged like an animal, insulted and humiliated in front of customers and staff? My area manager also informed me that I was apparently disrupting the staff, another false statement because out of the 4-5hours I had spent there on that day, most were spent alone guarding the fitting room, even when I was searching for codes at the caskdesk, I just did what I had come to do, I was standing in close proximity to Jacques while I was doing this and one thing I am sure of is that if he had seen me disrupting staff, he would've confronted me that very moment. So I find it quite odd that he only mentioned this when stating his case to the area manager. My intentions were good, my team knew that I liked helping and as a result I stopped doing so because of my manager's personal vendetta as well as Jacques discriminatory actions and the need to show his superiority through tyranny. I have since resigned from the company due to other reasons. To this day I do not understand why I was shown such hostility more especially by Jacques, someone who knew nothing about me.
