Old account

While checking my credit ratings due to wanting to buy a house, I found that I have an account balance from 2006! For Mr price and sheet street respectively and both for exactly the same amount. I have not been contacted by these companies in more than a decade so why haven't these accounts fallen away? I've emailed them but haven't received a reply. I'm ready to take this to the ombudsman.
