Inappropriate Search and Attitude

Yesterday my wife and I went to the local Mr Price in Promenade Mall, Mitchells Plain to see what I can buy on our new account. After finding our desired items, we were happy and proceeded to the till point to purchase our items on our new account card.

On leaving the store a member of staff, (who didn't even greet back when we greeted) and the security guard insisted on searching our bags and demanded a till slip (which was emailed to us) I refused as there is no sign indicating that bags are searched. I explained that this is a gross violation of our rights as well as an ******* act, since there was no sign indicating that searches would be done. I also pointed out that this does not happen in the more affluent areas, but here we are subject to this gross violation.

The staff member, very irritated by me (me being very calm) shrugged me off and said, "don't talk to me... there's the manager." Pointing in the direction of a gentleman in the distance.

The security lady, grabbed my wife's handbag and proceeded to search through it. Complete ignoring my protest to the violation.

This is absolutely unacceptable!!

We left the store, not happy with our experience at the above mentioned store. We would like to see something being done about this. If stock losses are the issue, then I would like to see the retailer do something proactive to assist its interest, but not at the expense of its clients.
