How Mr. Price left me priceless

On the 15th of May 2020, I took a drive to Bethlehem (Free State) where I frequently do my grocery shopping. Upon entering Dihlabeng Mall, my girlfriend and I decided to get some crockery at Mr.Price Home, and I must say the lady at the door gave us the best advice on the sale that met us at the entrance and we proceeded to the till. There we were met by the teller, who was also friendly and provided stella service.

All was well and I then enquired about a credit reinstatement, and she called a colleague who deals with accounts. The guy took offense to my jovial note, however he was helpful in connecting me to their accounts department, telephonically. The lady I spoke to, Sharon, was more than ready to dismiss me with a simple "you do not qualify for a credit increase" mind you, I had R5000 on initial application and in 2016 the account was settled. Seeing that I was not using the account months later they reduced the credit. In 2018, I recall a positive balance statement of R10, which I assumed meant that they owe me R10 as I had overpaid. Now two years later, not accounting for the fact that it had been 4 years since I last used the account, I sent them an email for reinstatement to no avail. Bear in mind that I have been receiving promotional emails and my statement, unchanged from 2018, from this establishment.

Now sharon tells me I do not qualify for a credit limit increase, when I was simply asking g for a credit reinstatement. When I asked if she, as a representative of the company, is inadvertently saying they no longer seek to do business with me, she kept reiterating that "you do not qualify for a credit limit increase". Frustrated and without any plausible explanation given, I ended the matter by stating that she should cease all contact with me and close the account.

Mr. Price has thus proven that it would rather its customers be indebted to it, and be in arrears with terrible credit with them, rather than be upstanding in doing business with them. I left the establishment aggrieved and felt that the lowly consumer is vulnerable to the ravenous wolfs and blood thirsty sharks of the credit providing retail stores. That good behaviour is rewarded with rude and unwelcome dismissal to one's plight. Thus Mr. Price left me priceless
