Gross Disrespect and Demeaning Service from Lungile Mkhwayi

I hereby write this in utter grief and embarrassment and gross disrespect cause by your employee and storekeeper named Lungulethu Mkhwayi at the Mr Price store in East London, Shop 47 in Union Street, dated 7 May 2024 at 14:25-30.

As I entered the above mentioned store, I humbly asked the storekeeper / security if I could leave the parcel I had in hand at the door as I was only going to be in the store to return an item I had purchased, he harshly and impolitely responded that he is not there to keep watch of people’s items and aggressively took it and sealed it. As I walked away he unpleasantly asked what was inside and in my response “an item that I need to return” and he offensively rep**** “am I supposed to smell that you are returning an item” I turned back and asked if he would rather approach me, in a better manner and in his response he mentioned that I am supposed to disclose such information to him without him having to ask.

I proceeded to the till point and reported the issue to the floor manager on duty and he better assisted me however he mentioned that Nozakhe, the store manager was not on duty. As I made my way out of the store, the ‘security’ stated that he needs to check inside my hand and I refused informing him that he will not open my personal bag. He proceeded to block the door and mentioned that I will not be leaving the store without him checking my belongings. I moved a distance and patiently asked him to make way as I needed to leave and he became hostile, blocked my way and said I am not exiting the door.

I then called the floor manager and asked for assistance and he allowed me to leave.

I am utterly devastated, disgusted and embarrassed to say the least at the treatment I underwent at the hands of your staff member, I am writing this with the request that disciplinary action be taken against Lungulethu Mkhwayi and I am requesting that I a furthermore contacted to be informed of what measures have been taken to ensure that no other customer suffers mental distress under the hands of such a vile human being.

I urge the Mr Price Human Resource department to look into their recruitment process and ensure that no vile ill-mannered person is hired at a high ranking enterprise that deals with face-to-face customer interactions.

I am writing this with disappointment and dissatisfaction and will not be visiting such a store until the matter, which I believe is captured in your surveillance cameras is resolved.

Yours sincerely, Aviwe Boya
