Gift cards are 'offline'

I purchase a gift card of R500.00 using my Visa card as a gift, I give the gift card to my little cousin, it doesnt work as it is offline, so I take the card back and ask for a refund, I am told, no refunds can be made on gift cards, I have the slip and everything, it was purchased the same day, maybe 30 mins ago. I am told it can only be put into my Mr Price account, why is that? If a product is useless to me, why cant I have my money refunded? I didnt buy it with your Mr Price account money, I used my own cash. What happens when you give it to someone as a gift and they cant use it? Update your services and get with the times, or dont provide things that cant stay 'online'!
