***** because No Credit Checks were done

Someone opened an account using my ID and name. Got confirmation that no credit checks were performed when this individual opened the account in Jan, which would have prevent this from happening. A total of almost R10,000 was spent, with zero payments made in 8 months. I'm almost certain this has had an extremely negative impact on my credit record. On top of this the supporting documents the individual provided were apparently "destroyed" 7 days after the application. I find both of these issues hard to understand - why/how is anyone allowed to give anyone credit without doing a credit check and secondly why would anyone willingly destroy the only evidence which could assist in identifying the culprits? Its hard to fathom how a credit retail store like this can have such poor checks in place to prevent these types of ***** issues from taking place.
