Damaged goods

I bought a pair shoes in mid January 2015 at mr price in century city (Cape Town),in mid February they were broken and damaged I could not wear them any longer .i then went to mr price stores at golden acre mall in Cape Town to return the shoes, I was referred to the manager who then told me that they can't take the shoes because I do not have the slip with me ,even though I had bank statement that clearly shows the purchase.she then told me to go back to century city where I bought the shoes.
