Shoddy aftersales and repair service

Mr Gutter was prompt in quoting and installing our gutter system. From our side we paid the deposit and final payment without any delay. However during the first rain our system was leaking. We have a rainwater harvesting system with water constantly in the underground pipes up to the level of the inlet of the tanks. This was specifically pointed out during consultation and we were informed that it woukd be no problem to seal the rainwater and gutter joints with a marine silicon.

1. The joints were not joined as promised

2. The joints were not sealed as promised

Mr Gutter was informed promptly about the problem. Then followed unanswered calls and alledged visits from them to our security estate. Security has no knowledge of them at the gate when they said they were alledgedly there.

It is only after I contacted Master Builders Association of Gauteng North about the problem that they sprung into action and came to fix the problem. The details of the fix was discussed and I trusted that they would come and properly join their gutter system to the existing rainwater harvesting system and seal it as discussed during the quote and repair consultation.

But this is not where my troubles ended. Mr Gutter proceeded to cut out their steel downpipes and install plastic drainpipes to the leaking areas. The original leak is fixed but the quality of workmanship and the overall aesthetics is terrible.

1. We paid for an expensive steel downpipe and got a piece of plastic

2. The plastic pipe looks terrible against the walls

3. The plastic pipe is cut scew

4. The plastic pipes are an ******* installation in our estate.

5. The plastic pipes do not nearly fit the description of Mr Gutters slogan " guttering systems of distinction."

6. The plastic and steel pipes were still not fitted together as originally promised.

Apart from the shoddy workmanship, bad service and overall terrible appearance of the plastic pipes the installation team leaders proceeded to give all sorts of excuses as to why the downpipes leaked, why the leaks would never NOT leak and general excuses as to why the job was not done as originally promised. This angered me because this showed that they should have known that there were going to be problems but did not inform me. This is in direct contravention of the Consumer Act. It was specifically pointed out that their system was going to connect to an existing system and they were quick to inform me during the quote consultation that they knew how to joint the two systems and that it would be NO PROBLEM.

Currently they are stuffing up more than they are fixing and we are getting an inferior product than what was promised by them and paid for by us.

I am currently in contact with the legal department of Master Builders Gauteng North.
