Terrible experience with Mr Engine

I purchased a replacement Z14XEP engine from Mr Engine to avoid downtime, but the experience has been nothing short of frustrating and costly.

The first engine failed almost immediately due to timing issues. It was “repaired” by a non-RMI approved mechanic, and when returned, it was mixing oil and water with no power.

The second engine also failed within 200 km, showing misfire codes and timing chain issues.

I was told the vehicle would need to go to Johannesburg for 3–4 days, or that I could repair it myself. I was assured it was just a head gasket/valve seals issue — but when I stripped the engine, it had bent valves and burnt piston rings.

I carried out a full rebuild at my own time and expense, invoiced fairly (even discounted labour), but they refuse to pay the balance owed for the work despite agreeing to cover parts and labour.

This matter has already cost me significant time and money. The service and accountability are far below professional standards.

I strongly caution anyone considering buying an engine here — my experience shows a clear lack of quality control, proper aftersales support, and fair treatment of customers.
