Unfair treatment
My name is Khanyisile Nkosi and I'd like to give a review on the experience with MPC connect, specifically the Brynston branch. MPC in a nutshell is a company that offers online English tutoring services. And so I was called for an interview to be an online tutor.
On the day of the interview I was specifically asked if I was interested in working full time or part-time, and because I knew very well I would not be able to meet the expectations of a part-time shift I then asked for full-time day shift and nothing was informed to me regarding my preferable shift.
I was then called in for a training program and I availed myself for the training. At that point I was under the impression that I'm training to be a full-time tutor as at this point nothing has been communicated otherwise.
When it was time for contract signing. It was only then that I was in formed there is only space for part time shifts.
I find that very disturbing because they then proceeded to say that if I can not avail myself for part time I also forfeit the money I would have made from training because one only gets paid once a contract is signed.
I find that disturbing because even if there is something thing that binds me to such a policy on what grounds is it okay for it to be implemented because the issue of having space for part time was not communicated to me which then makes it a problem the company created not me. Another concern is that it was mentioned that there were two training groups before our group who are in the same shoes as us. Which suggests that the company already knew about the situation and they could have communicated to me however they chose not to. My issue is then why did this information not get communicated to us from the on set so one would be able to make the decision to either continue with training or not. This is so that when we are told policies of not being remunerated without signing the contract we understand why and it is fair because I would have known before training that there is only space for Part time.
Overall I am very disappointed in the way the company treated me in general and the lack of respect that I deserve as potential employee. This is on the basis that nothing was ever communicated with me and once something is eventually communicated to me I'm expected to go with it or else somehow I will suffer the consequences.
The company used the fact that I signed an acknowledgement that explained the details of remuneration as their defense. However I fail to understand how that could even stand as a defense because on that very document it's indicated that I'm interested in a full-time job. Even so, I fail to understand how a signed acknowledgement stands in a situation where the company purposefully omitted to communicate vital information to me.
When reaching out to the company about this matter all they could do is apologize and it feels as though they are not accounting for the mistakes they have made. Also I feel as though an apology isn't enough due to the fact that during training I conducted live sessions which were paid by the client and I was obviously going to be compensated for those sessions but since I did not sign a contract I forfeit what I would have been paid. Which means that I offered my services to the company for free.
I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone looking for employment as they exploit people, it's an overall **** and they lack the basics of humanity and treating people. They feel nothing for the mistakes they create and it feels as though they are not interested in their employees.
