Do not apply to be a consultant at MPC Connect

Very unprofessional! I app**** to teach English at their call centre at Umhlanga. The recruitment lady that spoke to me told me my training would be 3 days, but when I got there it ended up being 5 days.

I got through the week of training and was told that I would be contacted with an update soon. A week later, they called me to offer me a probationary contract but said that they couldn't give me a start date because they were waiting for new equipment to come in. Even though I asked for updates on the status of my contract, I was only sent the contract more than a month later. I signed the contract and sent it back and asked for my start date and what I should do when I get to the centre. I was told to just come in and look for a team leader.

The day of my start date, I go in to the centre and there's only a few people there working for another teaching company to the one that I was trained for (I was not even told that this was an option). Someone at the centre then told me that I needed to go to their Coastlands centre because that's where I would be teaching. I was so confused be because we were never told that there was more than one teaching centre, and this was not explained during training. I was stressed out and frantic, I eventually drove to Coastlands and when I got there I had to park in the Coastlands centre parking as MPC provided no parking for their staff. When I got in, I was already switched out of my first lesson because they didn't cancel in on time. Switching out of a lesson means that R300 would be deducted from your salary for that lesson. I was told that they would sort it out. At the end of the day I had to pay R100 for parking!

This is ridiculous because that means R800 would be coming out of my R4000 salary every month - just for parking. When I complained about this and asked to teach at the other centre, I was told that that Centre was only used for training and to park down the road near a garage and walk to Coastlands every day. Although it was only R15 to park there all day, the risk that I'd be taking to park my car there and to walk by myself in the rain or heat everyday was definitely not worth it. I ended up resigning on my second day. I would have never signed the contract if I had been told these things upfront or clearly.

Definitely one of my worst experiences and the communication skills of their employees is pathetic. I was very disappointed and I'm unsure if I'll even get paid for the lessons I taught and for the week of training. If I don't get paid, it means I would have spent money to teach for them!
