Unnecessary requirements to cancel policy

I am trying to cancel my policy with Motorite. This is due to the fact that I have had a branch exhaust system installed onto my vehicle due to a faulty exhaust system before. Motorite do not provide cover for a vehicle which has been modified, which is acceptable. If those are their terms and conditions, then so be it.

I am now trying to cancel the policy and to make a long story short, I am expected to provide a list of certified documents for FICA purposes. Since when do you FICA a client when they are CANCELLING a policy? When I questioned this, I was informed that this was standard procedure when cancelling. I have spoken to legal experts and they have informed me that all I require is to give written notice of cancellation and have proof that the cancellation form has been received, which has all been done already. A policy holder cannot be refused the right to surrender a policy without a stipulated time frame. This is simply a tactic from Motorite to give customers the run around and provide unnecessary documentation, in the hopes that it will seem to much effort/work and put the customer off of cancelling their policy or in the hopes that the customer will procrastinate and will not get around to getting documents certified. This is completely *******. FICA registration happens at the commencement of a policy/contract, not when terminating a contract. The required documents were not even required when I signed up to Motorite, how can that be demanded of me when I am asking to cancel the policy. Please see this as my notice to cancel my policy. Should you not cancel my policy within the next 30 days, I will have the bank reverse the debit order each month from Motorite. Don't threaten customers and make it as difficult as possible to cancel a policy in the hopes that I won't cancel and will continue to pay for a policy I can never claim back from. Policy number: TS ********** 49. Cancel my policy!!!

Dear Sir,

We have reviewed your complaint and duly noted your comments.

It is not our intention to prolong the process or give you the run around in hope of you changing your mind about cancelling the policy.

The documents required forms part of our cancellation procedures which is also aligned to the Fica to ensure customer identification and to prohibit the elements of money laundering in the event of cancellation.

We do not find these conditions being onerous. In order for us to proceed with this cancellation - we will require the documents that have been requested.

Regards
