"Motorites call centre agents are mechanical engineers" FNB***2

I've recently suffered catastrophic engine failure on my vehicle which happened two weeks ago, I'm struggling to understand why for some reason the warranty only allocates R4500 for a total quotation of R88000.

According to the policy/warranty which is authorized by First Rand short-term insurance the maximum claim for engine cover is R20000 for the maximum payout, I am concerned as the discussion I had with Kyle(motorite call centre) said per verbatim that this is the claim payout for overfueling.

Policy reads as follows:

Engine All internally lubricated components, engine block (only if damaged by a covered component) burnt valves and related engine sensors. Engine cover excludes cracked cylinder heads and breakdown as a result of overheating or cambelt failure.

Fuel system Carburettor, fuel pump, diesel pump, airflow meter, fuel accumulator, fuel distributor, warm-up regulator, air sensor, injectors and related fuel system sensors. Fuel System cover excludes service, tune-up and diesel pump calibration.

Based on the analysis a injector is a covered component and thus falls under the engine cover as both components are covered, in this instance the mitigating component of failure was the injector.

The second part of this is the limitations which will be explained in detail.

Parts damaged through overfueling: Subject to the limit stated under Overfueling in the Limits of Liability Table, damage or breakdown as a result of any failure arising from overfueling and caused to any part listed in Clause 15 (including the replacement, adjustment and servicing of faulty injectors, injection pumps and associated parts) is covered under this Warranty.

According to assessment and reports from all parties concerned.

My assessment

There is a lot of causes for overfueling in the fuel system but ultimately this failure leads to domino effect causing engine failure.

Cwl Baard Ford Report on Engine Damage (KM 125416)

Piston nr 1 has a hole in it & cracked right across the piston crown. Nr 2 Piston also cracked through to the piston crown. Cause of failure can be attributed to injector failure. Injectors operate at 2000+ bar pressure and when an injector fails in the open position it emits a 2000 bar diesel stream which damages the pistons, sometimes, as in this case, blasts a hole in the piston & causes damage.

Report by diesel injection Services:

WE RECEIVED 4X SIEMENS PIEZO ELECTRONIC COMMON RAIL INJECTORS FOR TEST AND REPORT. WE CLEANED AND BENCH TESTED 4X INJECTORS: ALL 4X INJECTORS FULL LOAD FUEL DELIVERIES ARE LITTLE BELOW SPECIFICATION, BUT ALL OTHER DELIVERIES, PRESSURES AND BACK LEAKAGES ARE WITHIN SPECIFICATION. WE REGRET THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO WARRANTY THE INJECTORS - BENCH TESTED ONLY (no mention of overfueling)

According to the Consumer Protection Act, 2008:

A natural person has the right to fair and honest dealing The right to fair and honest dealing The right to fair, just and reasonable terms and conditions Your policy does not address a domino effect scenario but I feel the policy then assumes the following, giving the client a false sense of security, complete coverage and no peace of mind.

Currently I feel I have no redress in this regard and with the current state of financial affairs in this country some companies (Motorite) are still trying to run away from their responsibility as a company to give service delivery which is good and fair.

Motorite directly puts FNB insure into disrepute as they are manipulating the narrative and the methodology they use to not pay claims is not evidence based, all engine failures are due to a domino effect arising from a precursor or precursors which then leads to catastrophic engine failure, I feel as client of FNB i am not given proper service and compensation.

I will not let this issue rest or entertain poor service standards or a methodology that is not researched based as I believe non of the call centre agents at Motorite are not mechanical engineers or consultants on call, please find all reports for your viewing.

I today perused Hello Peter and was shocked poor service very poor service standards and deeply disappointed in how consumers are treated.

Your outcome doesn’t have redress it only caters for your point of view and not that of the client in this day and age I don't know how companies like yours still exist, you do not support the narrative of your service or those of the client. In all honesty I've dealt with a lot of insurance companies in my time and claims were paid out diligently and promptly, your company is the embodiment of what is wrong in South Africa ???????? and why looting, ***** and poor service standards are a business standard.

A good place to start your postmortem is to review the circumstances that preceded the failure, which in this case was a sudden onset with no explanation or history which suggests something may have been wrong since the vehicle was serviced on time annually, sometimes failures occur unexpectedly. One minute the engine is running fine and your keeping up with traffic, and the next you're sitting along side the road with the hood up wondering what happened. In most instances, though, there is ample warning that something is amiss long before the engine actually fails which was not the case in my personal capacity.

Unusual engine noises, low oil pressure, engine overheating, loss of power, misfiring, hard starting and similar driveability and performance complaints can all be indications of problems that need attention. The underlying cause may be something minor or major. There is no way to know unless somebody checks it out. If a motorist ignores such warnings long enough, it can be a very costly mistake because eventually the engine may succumb to whatever is causing the problem, which is a classic example of the famous preventive maintenance line, "You can pay me now or you can pay me later." And this line or phrase is what is worrisome to me. Your hypothesis is something more than a wild guess but less than a well-established theory and needs to go through a lot of testing before a certain idea can be verified. "However, the engine oil and consumables claimed for were not entertained as these items are not listed as a covered component and are excluded from the ambit of the policy" your explanation about does not hold water as im not concern about engine oil or consumables that will be for my own account, the concern here is that your policy blatantly gives your company a get out of jail card due to the fact that any component that causes a engine to fail is wholeheartedly denied eventhough the precursor to the event caused the damaged let me create an example to you... a patient enters a health establishment complaining of left sided weakness you examin the patient and find that the patient has a high blood pressure on doing CT scan you can determine that the patient had a cerebral hemorrhage(stroke) so the precursor to this was due to high blood pressure and a sedentary lifestyle to you understand the domino effect now or must I give you another example since all of you at Motorite are mechanical engineers.

I would like to stress that I will make it my lifes purpose to make it known how ******* you are and that your company are the custodians of your own needs and wants and that your policy prescipts are for own benefit and not of the client.
