MOTORITE SERVICE PLANS

I had taken out a service plan with Motorite in 2013 and have one service left on my plan.

Earlier this year I was sent an sms message by Motorite and advised that the service plan for the vehicle was to expire in early July 2017 and that I was required to book the vehicle in for a service before then.

I have always serviced the vehicle at Alpine Pinetown.

When I telephoned Alpine to book the vehicle in before July 2017 I was advised I could not as the vehicle had not completed the required mileage or passed the one year since last service period to be serviced.

I had spoken to Craig and informed him of the situation and he explained that there was nothing that he could do as this was between myself and yourselves.

I am now informed that if I take the vehicle in for a service motorite will not cover the costs.

This does not make sense for me to be paying for the service as I had done what was requested and Alpine refused to service my vehicle.

Dear Sir,

Motorite has investigated your complaint and duly noted your comments. We wish to respond as follows:

The product that forms the basis of this complaint is a Motorway service plan administered by Motorite Administrators (Pty) Ltd. The service plan provides cover for routine services as scheduled by the manufacturer. The service plan started on the 10/07/2012 (date of signature) at 0 km and ran for a period of 5 years and up to 90 000 km – the expiry of this plan was dependent on whichever is reached first.

It is important to note that as per the manufacturers specifications, your vehicle has a standard service interval of every 15 000 km or 12 months whichever occurs first with the applicable service leeway’s being 1 500 km or 30 days either side of the service parameter reached first, that being time or kilometres.

As mentioned by you, Alpine Motors was contacted by yourself upon receiving an sms from Motorite notifying you of when the contract was due to expire. Unfortunately Motorite are not in a position to comment on the details of your discussions with Alpine Motors, furthermore we also not sure of when such discussions took place, or what the exact kilometre reading of the vehicle was on at that point.

The sms received from Motorite only specified that the plan was expiring on the 10/17/2017 or 90 000 km whichever was reached first - this sms did not specify that the vehicle needed to be serviced.

Due to the vehicles low kilometres travelled - the vehicle has been carrying out annual services, Motorite approved 4 annual services to date. Our records indicate that the last service (60 000 km) was carried out on the 15/09/2016 at 51 476 km - this meant that the next annual service would only have been due on the 15 September 2017 or 66 476 km.

Considering that the vehicles current kilometre reading is 62 669km, with this said the vehicle was therefore not due for a service in July 2017. The earliest that the annual service could have been done was from the 15 August 2017 onwards - in line with the applicable service leeway's mentioned previously.

It should also be noted that the plan has expired on the 10 July 2017 and is no longer active as the contract parameters have been reached, therefore no further claims can be processed.

Regrettably we cannot be of any assistance in this regard.

Risk Management Complaints Division
