MOTORITE ADMINISTRATORS MISLEADING WARRANTY POLICY
I was forced to take out a Motorite Warranty on the 13TH of January 2021, when purchasing my car, which cost me R 9750.00 for a 12 months / unlimited kilometres warrantee.
During the beginning of June my vehicle’s alternator became faulty. This is an electrical fault. We submitted the claim and Motorite paid, as they should have, and the electrical part has been fixed.
However, the mechanic doing the work on the alternator had found issues with the rear wheel bearings, which is a mechanical fault.
After ±3.5 weeks and driving about 400 kilometres we found the wheel bearing problem has worsened. We took the vehicle back to the mechanic as we were scared that the problem may cause greater and or more permanent damage.
After submitting the claim, a rejection was received stating:
More than one failure at the same time
In the event that two separate components from two separate component categories fail simultaneously, the component with the highest cost (more expensive component failure) will be covered up to the maximum benefit limit as stated in the Limits of Liability Table or to the quoted cost of the repair (whichever is the lesser). Only one component per claim will be entertained. We shall, at our discretion, apply the MaxLimit Clause, as per the limits of liability for the covered component. Repairs to the remaining failed part(s) will be for your own account should MaxLimit not be allowed.
Please note: All costs over the MaxLimit limit of liability for the covered component will be for your account
MaxLimit
MaxLimit may be app**** where the repair cost of the mechanical breakdown is less than the applicable benefit limit. MaxLimit covers the additional repair cost up to the difference between the benefit limit and the repair cost of the covered part, should the repair cost be lesser.
Please note: MaxLimit is only applicable to parts covered under this Warranty and is subject to the service and claims history of your vehicle. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to determine whether MaxLimit is app****
This rejection is vague and unclear. We interpret the rejection that although the two faults is very different, one electrical and one mechanical, and although the policy is paid up, and although both faults is clearly covered by the warrantee, and although Motorite does not dispute the amount claimed but rather based their refusal to grant the claim based on the “time period” between the claims.
This defies logic, as, if left unfixed, the faulty wheel bearings will cause more damage that equates to more expensive replacement parts and labour costs. What also defies logic is that the policy does not clearly state the time period between claims rather than to cite their own discretion. Which simply means that there is no clear set date or time period on the claims and if you ask 2 different people, you will receive 2 different opinions.
Take note that this is the worst policy and administrators. They are looking for excuses to reject a valid claim using illogical reasons based on discretion. But where will this discretion be, when the fault escalates into a worse and more expensive problem, that may cause an accident and / or loss of life?
