Motoride holds my car ransom till month end - sends misleading SMSes, their debit order run late, alternative payment method rejected

After 2 years of being Motorride's client - their debit order failed due to my relocation and money being in limbo between accounts at the time.

Coincidence or the long distance drive to from Cape Town to Johannesburg; my car broke down on arrival.

After a failed attempt to reject the claim as being the same claim paid for months earlier; Motorride decided to reject the claim based on the failed debit order - besides having reassured me by phone and SMS that my policy is still valid till the second debit order fails.

After speaking to Willem (claims department) and Nadine Greylin - who insisted the claim can only be processed after the double debit order has gone through and that I cannot make the payment in any other way; their debit order run is now late - and I am now going mid-way in the second week or my claim being processed - with money many folds more than the premium spent on alternative transport.

After this stunt by motoride, the many unfruitful calls, relayed to staff members to retell my story and waiting on the line for up to 15 minutes till a hung up with no call backs - Unless you pay your policy months in advance - I would not recommend motoride

Dear Sir,

We have investigated your complaint as we wish to advise as follows:

The product that forms the basis of your complaint is a Options Monthly Warranty, cover provided in respect of monthly premium received. Our records indicate that the debit order for your warranty was unsuccessful for the month of February. The debit order went off on the 01/02/2017 and was unsuccessful due to insufficient funds. On the 07/02/2017 you were duly advised of same. At no point prior to this was Motorite made aware of your relocation or any payment arrangements made.

The claim in contention was lodged with Motorite on the 27/02/2017 at 116 478 km. The claim was rejected due to your premiums not being up to date. It is important to note that in order to enjoy the benefit of this policy your premiums have to be up to date. Please note that a double debit is set to go off your account at midnight of the 01/03/2017 - once this is confirmed to be successful, only then will your cover reinstate. Unfortunately there is no other means of payment aside from a monthly debit. Our records indicate that you were correctly advised in all your communication with Motorite.

Regards,

Risk Management Complaints Division
