Complete Smack in the Face!

Based on the report and the photos that was sent from the mechanic it is impossible for a warranty on a vehicle that we pay every month to pay out R2000 for repairs on this vehicle. Where not even one single part towards repairing the vehicle cost less then R2000. The engine failed and the quote that was given by the repairer was +/- R37000 as confirmed with Motorite and the payout is R2000 which is a real smack in my face. Motorite did not even send out a assessor to view the damages as confirmed with the repairer. Something completely went wrong on this vehicle for the damages to be there. The repairer clearly stated that this engine needs to be done over. I will not accept payout of R2000 from you guys and will refer the matter to Wesbank. I am on a prestige plan with them and according to me was covered for mechanical breakdowns. I have the vehicle for less then 2 years and can not afford the quote. This will mean that I need to pay a car that is going to stand broken in a garage, that is ridiculous. This is my only transport, I have nothing else and on top of that with a baby on the way. It makes me sick just thinking about it. If that will not help then to my contacts in the newspaper is where im taking this for the country to see how im being ********** because that is how I see thing at the moment. Im sure a juicy story like this is what they would love.

Dear Sir,

Motorite has reviewed this complaint and have duly noted the customers comments – we wish to respond as follows:

The product that forms the basis of this complaint is a WesBank Prestige mechanical breakdown warranty underwritten by Infiniti Insurance Ltd. of which Motorite are the appointed claims administrator. The policy provides cover for the failure of specified mechanical and electrical components subject to the policy terms and conditions being adhered to whereby the applicable limits of liability apply. The policy incepted on the 25/05/2016 at 102 330 km and runs for a period of 2 years.

The claim in contention was logged with Motorite on the 08/09/2017 at 127 995 km by DBS Auto Clinic (PTY) LTD. The repairer reported that the vehicle was towed in for low water levels that caused the vehicle to overheat of which resulted in the vehicles head gasket to have blown. The normal claims procedure was followed whereby we requested the vehicles service record, written failure report and quotation.

Motorite only received a report and quote from the repairer. They diagnosed and requested approval for the overheating damage sustained. The attached report supp**** by your preferred repairer refers:

“Vehicle blew head gasket. No water in the water bottle and car also won’t start. We did compression test on the vehicle and all cylinders had low compression. As we did compression test on the vehicle, cylinder 1 and 2 push water out of the spark plug holes. Cylinder head pulled and need to be repaired and also the cylinder block pulled and also needs to be repaired in order to prevent head gasket from blowing again.”

Taking the above into account it is clear that the vehicle overheated which resulted in engine damage. It was for this reason that Motorite approved the claim under the overheating benefit up to the maximum policy limits of liability, that being R 2 000.00 including VAT. The claim was authorised based on the technical opinion of your preferred repairer, as overheating was confirmed there was no need to appoint an assessor in this instance. The claim was administered in accordance with the attached policy terms and conditions of which refers:

Page: 7

Clause: 19 - Parts Covered By This Policy

Engine

All internally lubricated components, engine block (only if damaged by a covered component) and related engine sensors excluding burnt valves, cracked cylinder heads and breakdown as a result of overheating or cambelt failure;

&

Page: 8

Clause: IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS

Parts Damaged Through Overheating Damage, as well as breakdown caused to any part listed in clause 19, as a result of overheating, including cracked cylinder head(s) or engine failure, is covered under this policy, provided that the claim payable in relation to such part or damage will be limited to the amount stated under overheating in the Limits of Liability Table;

In view of the matter - Motorite remains of the opinion that the claim was administered fairly and correctly in line with the policy terms and conditions.

This is the problem the car never overheated as such as the car was stopped when the light came on. The water was filled a day before it happened and never ever did this car overheat or lose water so where did the water go to? of course it will cause damages. This car was maintained with hard earned cash and time put into this in order to keep its value. When this happened there was not even a warning sign but it only went on when the car stopped. So this is sure not a overheating problem but caused by other components that failed for the water and oil to disappear and then in a result caused overheating that then caused the car to blow a gasket. So if you want to pay out on the core like you trying your luck to now you should pay out on where the problem originated which in my opinion and the mechanic is that components in the engine failed that caused the water bottle to dry out and then ONLY then the car overheated.

Dear Sir,

Motorite has duly noted your comments.

We do not dispute that the coolant dissipated through the combustion chamber as you mentioned.

The fact remains is that the cylinder head gasket blew and a cylinder head gasket will not blow without overheating having occurred.

In terms of the policy terms and conditions, irrespective of what caused the overheating due to fact that the engine has in fact overheated – the overheating benefit applies in this instance.

Your preferred repairer is however welcome to provide comment as to what caused the cylinder head gasket to blow?

This is the Mechanics Report. Nature of the breakdown: Vehicle blew head gasket. No water in the water bottle and car also won’t start. We did compression test on the vehicle and all cylinders had low compression. As we did compression test on the vehicle, cylinder 1 and 2 push water out of the spark plug holes. Cylinder head pulled and need to be repaired and also the cylinder block pulled and also needs to be repaired in order to prevent head gasket from blowing again. *-*-**-*-*- The overheating occurred ONLY after the head gasket blew and not before the time so. He also mentioned that he never said that the car overheated and then the gasket blew. He did indeed mentioned that the overheating happened after the head gasket blew. Please discuss with Wesbank urgently as this car needs to be fixed as I mentioned that this is the ONLY transport.

Dear Sir,

Motorite has duly noted your comments.

Unfortunately, we maintain that that the head gasket blew as result of overheating.

The claim was therefore administered correctly in line with the policy terms and conditions

The gasket did not blow of overheating. It blew and then the engine overheated. This was confirmed with the mechanic. So your payout needs to be based on the head gasket which is the core of the problem not the overheating. Please send the assessor out for him to check these things. You can not sit from your offices and stupidly make these decisions.

So you are therefore administering the claim very and completely incorrectly. As it is obvious that the engine will overheat if the head gasket blow and that is exactly what happened.

Why dont you speak to the mechanic yourself as he clearly confirmed that the head gasket blew which cause the car to run dry on water and then obviously overheat as water was filled a day before this happened so its not the water levels that caused this neither overheating. Well I tried dealing with you guys and you sitting from your office telling us what happened to the car when you did not have a look at at nor send out assessor. This means that you clearly out to rob people. The case is with Wesbank now and preparing a newspaper article, so Wesbank and South africa they can see how pathetic and lazy Motorite is. Also, how they can try and twist word just not to pay out.

What reasons? That you made a decision from your office seats? Also, the decision is wrong based on overheating as we told you for the 3rd time that that was not the core of the problem.
