BEST WARRANTY, WORST PAY-OUT

I bought my vehicle in Jul 2017. I took out the top of the range warranty with Motorite to have peace of mind. Jan 2018 my warning light came on. I stopped immediately and Mercedes Benz came to fetch my vehicle on a flatbed. They submitted my claim with Motorite. It was conveniently stated by Motorite that my vehicle overheated. It is NOT TRUE. Mercedes Benz gave a report to confirm the vehicle HAD NO SIGNS OF overheating. No where in the Motorite policy wording does it state that a head gasket "CAN ONLY BLOW DUE TO OVERHEATING". That is what Quinton from Motorite told me. "The car had to overheat". MY CAR DID NOT OVERHEAT!!!!

Motorite paid R9000 of this claim, leaving me with an account of R26000!!! I did not ONLY pay 25.72% of my warranty when I bought it. Motorite can't only pay 25.72% of my claim.

Motorite do NOT have 100% proof that the vehicle overheated, they just chose to note that in their findings so that they don't have to pay out my claim.

I would like your offices to contact me and correct this claim and the payout or I will have no choice than to go to the OMBUDSMAN!

Dear Sir/Madam,

Motorite has reviewed your complaint and duly noted your comments– we wish to address the complaint as follows:

The product that forms the basis of this complaint is a WesBank Prestige Plus mechanical breakdown warranty underwritten by Infiniti Insurance Ltd. of which Motorite Administrators (Pty) Ltd. act as the appointed claims administrator. The policy provides cover for the failure of specified mechanical and electrical components subject to the policy terms and conditions being adhered to whereby the applicable limits of liability apply. The policy incepted on the 13/07/2017 at 46 000 km and runs for a period of 2 years.

The claim in contention was logged with Motorite on the 06/02/2018 at 51 287 km. The repairer reported that the vehicle came in for the EML light being on. The normal claims procedure was followed whereby we requested the vehicles service record, written failure report and quotation.

Upon receipt thereof – Motorite proceeded to appoint an assessor to go out and inspect the vehicle to ascertain the cause of failure and confirm the extent of the damage.

The assessment report refers:

The engine was removed and partially stripped ready to be inspected. The vehicle was inspected and confirmed that there are no modifications and there is also no alteration done on the exhaust system. The cylinder head was inspected and confirmed that there is corrosion present in the combustion chamber of all the cylinders. none of the valves are damaged or bent. The exhaust ports of the cylinder head is also covered in corrosion indicating that the coolant formed part of the combustion proses and escaped through the exhaust system. The cylinder head gasket was inspected and confirmed that the gasket is blown and there is bearing between ports.

Based on what was assessed it was confirmed that the engine overheated and resulted in the cylinder head gasket to blow. The blown cylinder head gasket resulted in coolant to be bypassed into the combustion chamber and forming part of the combustion proses thus the corrosion present in the combustion chamber of the cylinder head and the corrosion on the piston crowns. The main cause of overheating can be a result of the faulty thermostat or blocked radiator.

Upon receiving the requested information and based on the reports received it was clear that the cylinder head was cracked and due to the fact that the policy excludes cover for cracked cylinder heads under the engine benefit,

The policy wording refers:

Engine

All internally lubricated components, engine block (only if damaged by a covered component) and related engine sensors excluding burnt valves, cracked cylinder heads and breakdown as a result of overheating or cambelt failure;

Parts Damaged Through Overheating

Damage, as well as breakdown caused to any part listed in clause 20, as a result of overheating, including cracked cylinder head(s) or engine failure, is covered under this

policy, provided that the claim payable in relation to such part or damage will be limited to the amount stated under overheating in the Limits of Liability Table;;

Motorite proceeded to authorise the claim under the under the respective benefit category, that being the overheating benefit - up to the maximum limit of liability allowed by the policy, for an amount of R 9,000.00 including VAT in accordance with the policy terms and conditions.

In view of the matter - Motorite remains of the opinion that the claim was administered fairly and correctly in line with the policy terms and conditions. Should you not be happy with the outcome of the claim - you are at liberty to seek further recourse that is available to you.

Kind Regards

SB
