Good Day Everyone.

This is just a follow up experience review that I have with

MOTORING GURU - motoringguru.co.za which is underwritten by INSURE AFRICA UNDERWRITING MANAGERS

I had damage on my Volvo S90 while driving through a hail storm, where I could not see damaged areas of the road becuase of bad weather. I hit a big hole in the road which damaged 3 tyres and rims. I had the top plan Motoring Guru offered at the time for Pothole Cover. Mit Mak Motors sold this policy to me and explained that this is "Pothole Insurance Cover", which is is not.

MotoringGuru tried to tell me they cant honour my claim as they only cover 2 tyres per claim, which the "policy/service schedule" does not show anywhere. I went back to them with the fact that I could not find this in the document they gave me upon signing up.

They then stated that they do not provide insurce but only a service which claims on my behalf, and because its a national road managed by SANRAL, it has to go to court so I have to pay the court cost to try and get the claim.

I eventually dropped everything, and wrote a review on here some social media posts. They then got back to me again wanting all the information again, which I gave to them, but its a year later, so I've sold the vehicle now.

The reply from them:

"Good day Mr S********, my apologies for taking so long to revert but the Municipalities are not the speediest communicators nor payors (when they pay). Please note that the product you had was a service product not a policy/insured product, i.e. it was for a provision that in the event you hit a pothole we would assist you to claim against the relevant municipality. In some cases the funds are advanced to you and then a claim instituted against the relevant agency/municipality. We did this previously in the first claim you initiated as it was not a substantial quantum. However, with respect to the second claim there were two challenges with it, it was for three tyres/rims and we only assess a claim for two tyres/rims on the same side of the vehicle from "a pothole" and secondly, the quantum (amount) was extremely high and the experience with the municipalities is that they do not pay the larger ones or at least not fully. So we instituted a claim against the municipality first on this one. The end result of that was that the Municipality reverted with the fact that they would rather go to court on the matter which would have resulted in a further cost to us, therefore we could not advance the funds.

The follow up email was based on your complaint stating that we do everything not to pay (despite the fact this is a service based product) and we had reverted back to the municipality.

Unfortunately, the municipality will not pay a claim on a vehicle that is no longer owned by the road user.

Kind regards, Erick"

So a warning from my side, make sure that when you buy their product, you understand, its not Pothole Insurance, but just a service that you are buying, and you have a chance of getting your claim paid, its not a guarantee.
