Misleading contracts.

I would actually love it if action would be taken or ill ensure to look for a lawyer to action this for me. In January this year i joined the gym and the representative that was responsible to sign me on (a full time employee of the business) told me that although they are taking my bank details they would not do a debit order. I asked this more than three times and he assured me "no, they wont deduct, they just want it as a standard protocol". But no, they deducted, and i had to go and fix this with the gym because i wanted to pay by hand from the beginning. Secondly, today i want to cancel my membership because its too far from where im staying, and write them an email confidently thinking that there will be no cancellation fees, because Steven had clearly told me there would be none when i cancel. I receive an email telling me that i will owe about R5000 when i cancel. My, can people stop being deceptive. This doesn't constitute an agreement on my part, hence i regard im not liable to pay any cancellation fee. Please assist, because i have no desire to have debt collectors claiming money from me because of this.
