Incompetence Level: 2000

In September I requested that my contract be frozen and the lady at reception advised that she would process the request and it would need to be approved by head office. I did allow five working days before the next debit order run date as instructed.

in October a debit order ran from my account, which I thought must have been done in error, so I had it reversed at the bank. In November the debit order ran again, but I had not made provision for the debit order, because I thought that the freeze request must surely have been finalized by then. Someone from the gym called me later in November to ask how the exercise is going and I explained to her that I had given instruction to freeze the contract, but she said that no such request had been loaded on their system.

When I went to the gym to speak to someone about it, and to have the contract cancelled, the lady at reception advised me that whatever is not paid on my account would need to be settled before the contract can be cancelled. This is after I allowed my December debit order to run.

I called the gym yesterday and they advised that the request to cancel my contract had been declined because my account is in arrears and I need to pay R1180 and then resubmit the cancellation request, which would result in me having to pay a further R590 for January. Arrears that would not have accumulated had my request been actioned when I initially requested it.

I have never dealt with such incompetence in my life.

Good Afternoon Mr Fredricks,

Please accept our apologies for taking so long to respond and resolve your query.

With regards to your freezing, our freezing policy is quiet specific with regards to its terms and conditions and can be found on our terms and conditions. Unfortunately your request did not fall into any of the acceptable reasons and it had no supporting documentation to substantiate it.

However, this should have been communicated with you by either our club manager or our receptionist at the time you requested to freeze your membership.

Due to this lack of communication from our side, Candice came and spoke with myself and we have actioned your request and amended your membership accordingly.

I hope that you find the above in order and we do value you being a member with us

Regards

Neil Strangleman
