Handed over without written notice

I signed up last year at Motion Fitness George. My first month were free. I've never missed a payment untill December when I had to pay twice (I wasn't aware of that) and I missed a payment on February 1st. On the 16th I went to pay (they didn't let me know that my payment hasn't gone through, I only realised later that's why I only went on the 16th), they then told me I was handed over to an attorney.

I then phoned the attorney and she couldn't find anything on me. She then called motion fitness and a week later sent my bill. Now I have to pay lawyer's fees of over R500. I just think that's unacceptable.

Firstly because Motion Fitness didn't let me know of anything that was happening then when I tried to clear things up the manager is never available. I've been trying for almost 2 weeks now to get him to talk to me and left a lot of messages to have him get back to me, I'm still waiting.
