Still Waiting for Updates After More Than a Year

In April 2025, my fiancé and I appointed Lenro Mostert of Mostert Attorneys to assist us with recovering a rental deposit that had not been returned by a former landlord. We paid the agreed legal fees and were advised that the matter would be pursued on our behalf.

More than a year later, we still have not recovered the deposit, nor have we received clear and consistent feedback regarding the progress of the case.

Our main concern has been the lack of communication throughout the process. We have had to repeatedly follow up ourselves for updates. On numerous occasions, we were asked to contact him again at a later date, such as the next day or the following week, but we received very little proactive communication regarding the matter.

We have not received regular progress reports, updates by email, or clear explanations of what steps have been taken and what the current status of the matter is. This has left us feeling frustrated and uncertain about the progress of our case.

Most recently, when requesting feedback, we were informed that the entire file would be sent to us together with an invoice, despite our understanding that legal fees had already been paid.

We understand that legal matters can take time and that outcomes cannot be guaranteed. However, we expected regular communication and transparency regarding the handling of our case. Unfortunately, this has not been our experience.

We have not received any of the following:

Copies of all correspondence sent on your behalf. Proof of any filing, complaint, summons, or application that was allegedly lodged. The current status of the matter and the case/reference number
