Service and Repair Morphine-Racing
My experience with Morphine-Racing
On the 28th of April 2018 I took my CBR to a Mr Rob Morf for its 48 000 km service. Now other than an intermittent quick shifter, leaking sprocket seal and Brake pads over and above the Manufacturers maintenance schedule needed the bike was running perfectly with zero faults or issues on my 180km trip to his premises.
I dropped the bike off with him informing me the work will be done and ready for collection the following Friday 4th of May 2018.
Now my first mistake was not getting a formal quote before taking the bike in as a friend recommended him and pricing seemed reasonable. However, he proceeded to work on the bike and hit me with a R8 712.50 bill. and on the 5th he informed me he didn't get all the parts needed for the bike and that it will only be done the end of the following week by the Saturday of the 9th of May 2018. I paid 50% and would pay outstanding upon collection.
Found the quick shifter cable to be damaged and attempted a repair with no success as well as relocated some harness wiring but was told bike will be ready for collection Saturday morning. Saturday went to collect the bike. Upon arrival 30 min after I said I will be there to collect, the bike was still in pieces and busy being assembled. I did inform him that I was on a schedule as I had to be back at work by 11am. I had to wait over an hour for them to complete assembly and received back a filthy bike with oil residue from the leaking seal still on my rear rim, the worker of his was wiping down the bike with MR Min?
Upset as can be and late for work now I settled the bill and left for work. 40km into my trip back the bike started missing around 7000 rpm and over the next 3 km proceeded to get worse. I proceeded to ride it under 5000 rpm where it ran normal till I could pull over at a safe fami**** spot. I attempted to call Rob 3 times with no luck and after 20-30 min he called me and said he will collect the bike. After about 30min he collected the bike and assured me that he would deliver it the following week, to my work or home and not charge for any labour on correcting the faulty bike.
Then the nightmare began.
Basically, was told day after day, week after week, that the fault is still there and a trial and error process of elimination was being followed, and that my bike was priority to him and his team. Updates on progress was not consistent, or adding up, and a lot of inconsistent reasons given. Technical findings were explained with stories not always making sense or adding up. This proceeded with bike being apparently ready a few times, then delivery being cancelled either on the day or the day before.
3 weeks ago, I went to his premises to check on my bike and it was in pieces. Decided to give him another week and then I would collect it when I was on yearly leave.
A few days after my surprise visit I was informed that the stator was burnt and from the picture it seemed slightly brown on tips but not too bad. He sent it in to a stator repairer to be checked and if found faulty, to rewind and repair. It was said to take 4 working days at a cost of R1750. 6 working days later, I was told that the pulse coil was also at fault and that it would be an extra R500-R600 to replace. Then a day later said there was a struggle to get everything to work. Fast forward to last week Thursday (week 12 since I took it for the service) I was told the bike would be collected from the repair place the afternoon.
Friday, I get told the bike is busy getting tested and that it will only be done and collected Monday morning the 30th of July 2018(week 13) Monday morning around 08:30 I was told the bike won’t be released from stator repairer until paid in full. Then he hit me with a R3584 bill for stator and coil repair. Rob said once payment is made he will collect the bike. After telling him I don't feel comfortable making the full payment and prefer to do it 50% upfront (deposit) and 50% on delivery he said that, the split payment wouldn't work, and full payment is required.
I ended up paying the full amount by 11am and told him to collect immediately as he wanted to go to the track Wednesday and my only vehicle was going in Wednesday, he assured me he would deliver Tuesday 31st July 2018 in afternoon.
Now as I type this it is 1st August 2018 and I spent the whole of yesterday and last night phoning him and telling him the bike must be delivered I don't care what time. Around 21:00 he started saying he is trying to get a van and needs to ‘make a plan’ and guys are busy washing the bike then ignored me for the rest of the night.
Now at 03:15 sent a message saying he fell asleep and will deliver in the morning.
He has been saying he’s going to leave soon since 09h15 and it is now 13h00 he phoned me and said he’s waiting for a friend then he’s leaving in an hour.
Finally, after all this, the bike only got delivered back to me at 17:45 (01 August 2018) • The bike did not have it’s bazzaz fitted back (it was fitted perfectly when initially sent for service) • The bike was not properly cleaned
I had appointments to get to which is costing me money to move or cancel and I've lost a whole day yet again.
Then unfortunately to top off this exciting service experience, I noticed more problems the next day while cleaning the bike. • The faring bolts weren’t bolted and tightened properly (could un***** with two fingers) • The bottom faring pieces were clipped in skew, therefor pressing against the exhaust which caused the faring to melt. This I now have to replace as Rob refuses to take responsibility.
Worst service experience of my life.
Be warned! Others are also struggling now with him too, especially with timely feedback and delivering on his promises. I also suspect he is loading the bills but can’t prove it at this stage. He always under quotes, under promises and under delivers. His work is shoddy and unprofessional. He lies in his feedback. He breaks the bike he is working on and makes you pay for it. You will almost certainly have your bike delivered with new defects based on my experience.
