I had a very disappointing breakfast experience at Morningside Centre today. The chef at the egg station became visibly unfriendly because she believed I had not greeted her when I approached. The reality is that she was busy assisting another customer, and I chose not to interrupt. When I later raised the issue, she admitted that her attitude was because she felt I had not greeted her and apologised. The situation became worse when I ordered flapjacks and was served a burnt batch. Only one was even remotely edible. When I sent them back, I could hear the chef complaining about having to remake them, despite the fact that the food should never have been served in that condition. What concerned me most was the impression that service quality depended on whether the chef felt personally acknowledged. Customers should receive professional, courteous service regardless. No one should have to manage an employee’s emotions in order to receive decent food and service. The replacement flapjacks were better, but the overall experience left a very poor impression.
