Shocking Dentistry

Before I Begin, I want to state that I am not a dental professional and the below is based on my unfortunate experience.

If you are considering visiting Monument Dental, Dr Johesta Naude in particular, please read the below 4 points first!

1. I went to Johesta Naude with a rather sever toothache. After a month, several consultations, a crown and many many thousands of Rands, I still have the same toothache only now it is unbearable. I have had to make an appointment to see anther dentist to get it resolved, I informed Johesta Naude of the unbearable pain persisting to which she prescribed pain killers and two different courses of antibiotics at the same time?! having done enquiries as to why two courses of antibiotics, it turns out that it was an infection in the jawbone. Johesta Naude knew this because she prescribed the antibiotics but never ever mentioned it to me?

2. should you decide to go to Johesta Naude, which I would definitely not recommend, be extremely vigilant of the costs. I asked on three separate occasions what the costs would be, what would be claimed and what would be for my account with no definitive answer! They were happy to just go ahead with procedures that would have cost me in excess of R40k had I not re-iterated my concerns and told them not to proceed. I ********ly referred a colleague and he was quoted the exact same procedure?? and I warned him to check the costs first and they had done the same to him.

3. A dentist may not ask your medical aid how much is available in your medical savings account (fact). Johesta Naude determines how much you have available in your medical savings account by requesting authorization for a high amount and then lowering the amount until the authorization is approved. I know this because Johesta Naude told me how much medical savings I had and then told me how she knew. it is my opinion that once they know how much savings is available, they systematically proceed in draining the Medical savings Account. Both of these will be taken up with the forensics department of my medical aid.

4. my advice based on my experience is that if you are considering Monument Dental and Johesta Naude, save yourself a lot of frustration, money and forego the inevitable and just go to another dentist.
