Modia Woodlands Psychiatric Hospital is a ****
FORMAL COMPLAINT – MONDIA WOODLANDS PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL I was admitted to Mondia Woodlands in Bloemfontein on 30 June 2026 for psychiatric treatment. From the beginning, I experienced serious concerns regarding administration, patient monitoring and general care. During my stay, I observed patients not being consistently checked by nursing staff. One patient in my room had significant physical disabilities and appeared to have no adequate assistance, leaving other patients to help her. I also raised concerns about patient monitoring, and the situation only improved after I escalated it in writing. The most disturbing incident happened when I was removed from the hospital. The day before, I had seen both my psychiatrist and psychologist, and I was told they would see me again the following day. I was therefore not expecting to leave. The following day, after coming out of a class, an occupational the****** told me in front of other patients that I was not supposed to be there and that I had to leave because my name was on a list. I was then referred to the financial office and told that GEMS had not paid and that I would have to pay approximately R5,000 for the day if I stayed. I contacted GEMS myself. I was informed that their last communication from Mondia regarding my authorisation was on 30 June and that Mondia could have contacted them if further days were required. What made the situation even more confusing was that, while I was preparing to leave, the same occupational the****** and a financial clerk later told me that I could actually stay for another two days. I left without the proper discharge documentation I needed. My personal belongings were also mishandled: I was given a box with my number containing someone else's belongings, while staff could not locate mine. I have repeatedly contacted Mondia regarding my belongings and medical documentation, including trying to reach management, but I have not received a satisfactory response. I am now approaching my second month without a salary, and the lack of medical/discharge documentation has made an already difficult situation even worse. I went to Mondia seeking psychiatric care and relief. I believe the way my treatment, discharge, medical-aid communication and belongings were handled requires serious investigation. I have now formally escalated this matter to the Office of the Health Ombud and am asking Mondia to account for what hwlappened.
