Terrible Communication

Hi there,

I am currently a student at Monash SA doing my post graduate diploma in accounting. This course is run by CA Connect who lecture the course through Monash SA. I decided to further my studies through Monash SA as a former student spoke highly of this course. I was unfortunately quickly disappointed.

I app**** for the course and received an acceptance letter stating that I was accepted to do this one year course. AFTER paying a non refundable deposit of about R17k (the fees for the year amount to about R60k) I received a second acceptance letter stating that I was put on the two year stream. I had no prior knowledge that there was even a two year stream for the course. After enquiring with the CA Connect management, I was then told that in order to be switched back to the one year course and be allowed to write finals I would need to obtain an average of 43% after test 2. I unfortunately did not.

After coming to terms with the fact that I will need to raise funds for next year in order to finish this course, I was then informed that if I still did not obtain a 43% average after test 3, I would not be offered automatic acceptance next year and it would be on a 'first come first serve' basis. Now, not only am I barred from writing my final exams but there is a chance that I may not be accepted back next year to finish this course.

I did not know any of this prior to paying the deposit. I, along with many other students, took this up with the management of CA Connect and we were told that CA Connect cannot be held responsible for the poor communication between students and the communcations office at Monash SA , even though we are essentially doing this qualification through CA Connect as well as Monash SA. CA Connects management also told us that "Rules are rules", basically forcing us to accept this situation and these rules that seem to frequently change.

I feel very disheartened and disappointed. As CA's in training, we are taught that ethics are a very important part of being a CA. I feel like CA Connect has not been very ethical in the way that they have handled this situation.

I came to Hellopeter as a last resort, as the cries of many students have fallen of deaf ears.
