My employer do not give any compensation for maternity leave. I needed to claim UIF for my new baby's expenses. To ensure that I do not make mistakes and forfeit my payment from the Department of Labour, I used my savings to pay Mom's UIF to assist me. I filled in all the forms and couriered it to them (altogether it was almost 40 pages) . I send everything - twice. In time. After about 50 e-mails and countless telephone calls, I have yet to receive any money from the Dept of Labour (and it is a year later). In despiration, I contacted my bookkeeper who submitted only a few forms to DOL. Within a week, I received a response from the Dept of Labour!!!!? Mom's UIF kept on claiming that the DOL was the problem, but obviously THEY were not doing their bit to help their client. The Dept of Labour has now informed me that my window period for claiming passed. Mom's UIF should be held responsible, but they do not reply to my written correspondence and they are impossible to reach telephonically! I want to warn other unsuspected, vurnarable moms-to-be to absolutely stay away from this company. They are quick to take your money, but will not assist you when it really matters!!
