Terrible service and food

Valentines Day is supposed to a memorable day with good memories. On 11th February we book a table for 3 for 12 midday on the veranda, my wife is intolerant to the sun. We arrived and were taken to a table in the direct sun. After some banter with the individual who took us to our high sun table, they agreed to making space for us on the veranda. Time was 12:10

At 12:15 we were issued with menus. 12:20 our drink order was taken and menus issued. 12:30 our drinks arrived and we placed our order. After some items not being available, we settled on A MSE Gourmet Steak Roll (Lamb Curry not Available), Thai Red Chicken Curry (Tikka Chicken Marsala Curry not Available). At the time or ordering the Curry I made it clear that it must not be spicy, not even mild. The waiter assured us it would have no bite. I settle on the Eisbein. We also ordered a Waldorf Salad for the table.

By 1:20 no one had yet called on us for another order of drinks or an update on our food. Finally, at 13:25 we got our second round of drinks. At 13:30 our meal arrived; we were starving.

The Eisbein was so dry it appeared it had been prepared a few days prior, then left uncovered in the fridge to dehydrate and then over roasted in the oven. I picked up this dead piece of dried pork and showed the waiter, he said that is how it is, people like it crunchy LOL. I decided then to try my wife’s curry, it was volcanic and over salted, inedible. My wife being polite said she would persevere with her small bowl (R145) of fire, she managed 2 small bites, rather concentrating on the Triangular store-bought limp crackers (I think that is what they were, certainly not homemade Roti) I showed the folks at the adjacent table my R165 cremation so as to get their opinion, they agreed with me. Oh let me not forget the small ramekin of mash potatoes topped with mushy peas, a laugh.

I decided to change my order to the R200 Smoked Belly Ribs that arrived at 14:10. Sadly the ribs suffered the same fate as the Eisbein. I thought it would be dripping in their advertised Carolina mop sauce, sadly the sauce must have evaporated. Prior to the ribs arriving, the manager / owner called Eugene arrived to defend the Eisbein, saying that is how his customers like it. I can only assume his Eisbein customers are smoking more than regular tobacco. Eugene, you have no idea as to what constitutes good food.

Another fun item to discuss was the R75 salad. To call 12 half walnuts, a piece of apple chopped with 8 half g****s covered in 2 table s****s of what I assumed was whipped cream a salad, is an insult to the memory of a Waldorf salad. Go check Eugene.

I settled the bill, just short of R700, leaving with no fond memories of Molly’s Speak Easy other than a promise never to return. Thank you, Eugene for a wonderful Valentine memory. Subsequently I have had a reply from the owner calling my comments a rant, even saying other patrons agree with him. I have no way of disputing this other than the two other individuals at my table. In short, I had no axe to grind with Molly’s, just wanted acknowledgement from the owner.
