Modern guest suite

I recently had an absolutely terrible experience with The Modern Guest Suite, and I feel compelled to warn others. I had the worst experience with this establishment and its host.

I booked The Modern Guest Suite via LekkeSlaap and requested an early check-in. A few hours before the scheduled check-in, I had a genuine emergency and immediately contacted the host to request either a refund or an alternative arrangement. The host informed me that refunds were “the responsibility of the third-party platform.” I then contacted LekkeSlaap, who promised to engage the host and get back to me.

What followed was an entire day of unprofessionalism, lack of communication, and blatant disregard for me as a paying customer:

LekkeSlaap and the host ignored multiple emails, calls, and texts.

When calls were answered, they spoke Afrikaans and pretended not to understand me.

The host ignored my calls and WhatsApps, even though he was visibly active online.

I was given the runaround all day and no solution was offered, despite my repeated requests.

When I finally reached the host in the evening, he was dismissive, rude, and condescending. Instead of honoring the booking I had already paid for, he told me I would need to pay an additional half of the original booking fee just to use the room the following day. He even claimed he was “doing me a favor” and made it clear that my money was already lost.

This is not only a violation of their own stated policy (which only refers to deposits – and in my case no deposit was made), but it also shows a complete lack of basic human decency, accountability, and professionalism. Instead of working towards a solution, I was left with arrogance, zero courtesy, and a service provider that clearly values profit over people.

In the end, I paid for an entire day but was only offered a late-night check-in at 10pm with a 10am checkout — essentially being ****** of both time and money.

👉 I strongly advise against booking The Modern Guest Suite in Sonneglans, Randburg. The property may look attractive, but the service is disgraceful, the host is unprofessional, and the business practices are unfair and exploitative.
