MK CONSTRUCTION AND HOME DESIGN

Our experience with Jena and son’s group—working in partnership with MK Construction and home design —was a nightmare. The operation appears to be a well-organised **** involving multiple aliases, including one individual using the name “Jay” while officially listed as Director of the company, Takudzwa Mebri. Oddly, our research uncovered that someone by the same name had previously accused this company of ***** in 2022. One of the MK Construction directors is Owen Munyaradzi Kuzanga, and both companies seem deeply intertwined, sharing resources and tactics.

What Happened:

We engaged them for a kitchen renovation, initially attracted by a suspiciously good deal on Instagram. They quickly upsold a full-house renovation package—including civil works, painting, plumbing, aluminium windows, electricals, and carpentry—all supposedly within our budget. We were required to pay a 70% upfront deposit, after which the problems began: • Work delays and zero delivery: No significant progress was made for two months. • Severe property damage: We had to redo nearly everything—electrical wiring, intercom, fencing, plumbing, floors, tiling, support structures, and aluminium installations. • Project mismanagement: No site supervision, no integration between teams, no project plan, and absolutely no quality control. Jay (aka Takudzwa) never set foot on-site. • Dishonest upselling tactics: Constant scope creep is used to justify asking for more money, while existing work remains incomplete. • Unskilled, underpaid labour: Contractors were often sourced from outside town, poorly paid or unpaid, and frequently rotated—likely to avoid accountability. • MK Construction and home design plays "the saviour": When issues were raised, MK Construction stepped in to “help,” only to demand even more money while continuing the same poor practices.

They have taken no responsibility for the delays, damages, or the inconvenience caused. Instead of addressing the issues, they repeatedly justified their actions, made empty promises, and eventually stopped communicating after we insisted they complete the work or refund our money. To date, we have received no refund. We are still left without a renovated or liveable home despite paying them substantially. Red Flags We Ignored (Learn from Us):

1. Instagram “specials” are too good to be true, with photos of work likely ****** from other sources. 2. No site visits or absolute references. Everyone we contacted shared similar horror stories. 3. Exorbitant upfront deposit required without a detailed contract or bill of materials. 4. Not VAT registered yet, but claim extensive high-value work. 5. Lack of documentation and professionalism—no formal contract, timelines, or accountability. 6. Destructive behaviour—they demolished functioning parts of our home, creating unnecessary damage and scope. 7. ********* labour practices—exploitation of workers and use of ************ to extract more money from clients.

This company, under any of its names or aliases, is not trustworthy. It uses online reviews and pressure marketing tactics to appear legitimate but fails to deliver even basic project management, let alone quality workmanship. Avoid them at all costs.
