Writeoff but not a writeoff

Could you please advise me on this matter? I was involved in an accident with my car in September 2018. Miway declared it a writeoff but you could see the damage was not more than R25000 hence my valued R160000. I cancelled the claim. Miway promised to pay me to fix it myself. Mr Kruger made conference call amongst lady from wesbank him and myself. The lady refused that they pay me to fix a car that is a writeoff but Mr Kruger explained to her that it was not a total writeoff. They just concerned since it was damaged to the front. My question to you is-was it my right for miway to pay me or their gesture that they understand my dilema?
