The claim was closed on reason: Premium not paid

My husband's bicycle (which is insured with MiWay) was ****** on the 16th of June, a claim was lodged and has just last week been declined because my husband couldn't pay May's premium. My husband called MiWay and explained that he was not getting his full salary due to the difficulties experienced during this COVID-19 pandemic and he was told that someone would contact him to make an arrangement to ensure that he would still be covered. No one ever called him back and the employee dealing with the claim acknowledged the fact the she retrieved the phone call made by my husband and couldn't answer as to why no one called him back. Now, because of MiWay's incompetence a claim will not be paid and I think this is totally unfair. Nowhere in MiWay's T's & C's does it mention what would happen in the event of a pandemic and they don't even want to give us the option to pay the missed premium so that the policy is up to date.

This claim needs to be reviewed due to the extenuating circumstances that we are currently in.

My husband received a call from one of your consultants and I have to say that I am absolutely appalled by the way he was spoken to. The lady would not let my husband speak, when he asked questions she either could not answer him or told him outright that she was not prepared to discuss the processes to be followed when the country is experiencing a pandemic.

Her feedback was that he should've contacted MiWay before he returned the debit order but when he spoke to the consultant to advise that he could not pay for that month nothing was said that he has breached policy processes.

We are literally being made to feel like absolute imbeciles because we should know the process to be followed but your own employees cannot give us accurate information.

The consultant that my husband spoke to today was downright rude and I will not stand for this kind of treatment - this will now be escalated to the Ombudsman!!!!!
