STEER CLEAR OF MIWAY

I have had vehicle insurance with Miway since June 2013 and have faithfully paid premiums over the past 9 years and 8 months.

Since 3 August 2022 I have been trying to cancel the vehicle insurance as our recent health crisis has impacted our family negatively as it has so many others. Miway has tried contacting me telephonically even though I have expressed in emails numerous times that due to the nature of my work I can only be reached via contacted via email (preferably) or sms. In spite of numerous emails, premiums are STILL being deducted. To make matters worse, Miway deducts premiums days BEFORE the authorised contract date some months without regard to whether salaries have come in, or whether there are sufficient funds in my bank account before the agreed upon debit order date.

Due to even heavier financial strains we have sold the vehicle which was insured by Miway. I have emailed the information to Miway with repeat instruction / request to cancel the policy and a reminder that I cannot take calls while at work. Not surprising, a Miway consultant tried to contact me during my work day and sent an email to that effect and asking me to contact Miway so that the cancellation can be processed.

On Tuesday 14 February 2023 I had some time off from work and phoned to get the cancellation processed once and for all. I spoke to Precious at about 15h10. She was polite and very helpful, but unfortunately I was through to the wrong department. While she tried to transfer me to policy cancellations I received an email from Ofentse Tshukudu asking if Miway could contact me after 17h00 that day. I mentioned this to Precious and agreed I'd be available for the call. I immediately responded to Ofentse's email saying I am available to take their call on that day. I waited till 19h30 for a Miway consultant to contact me to no avail. I sent Ofentse an email this morning together with documents showing that ownership of the vehicle in question has been transferred. The email was sent at a time when I am able to process and handle personal matters before going to work (05h00). This is a time that works for me, but by NO MEANS an expectation for my correspondence to be dealt with at that time.

The response I received from Miway's SENIOR advisor, Ofentse Tshukudu was RUDE, ABRUPT and totally UNPROFESSIONAL.

After numerous challenges in trying to get Miway to process debit order payments on the agreed contract date, difficulty in cancelling the policy and now this appalling service I would NEVER want to do business with Miway ever again. Without any consultation, agreement or permission they have changed the nature of the debit order so that Stop Payments with the bank is not an option.

In a world and climate where everyone is encouraged and rewarded for handling their affairs ONLINE, Miway sure goes against the grain and make Online options virtually impossible.

With so many Insurance providers to choose from I would encourage people to research options carefully and if quality, convenient online service is what your are looking for, give Miway a WIDE berth. Their only interest is to have consultants telephonically pitch products and sales. I know Miway will not be on my radar when I am back on my feet and able to afford a vehicle again. Very frustrating!
