Play away from these TV Ad insurance companies
It has become evident that insurance companies that heavily advertise on TV often fail to deliver on their promises. Instead of providing peace of mind, they seem more focused on finding loopholes to deny claims, adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation, especially when dealing with a ****** vehicle. MiWay Insurance Company is a prime example.
My bike was ****** while in the care of a mechanic, yet MiWay looked for every possible reason not to honor my claim. Their justification for denying my case was based on the following:
1. Unauthorized Use Clause: MiWay refused to pay my claim, citing that I had given the mechanic permission to use the bike. They referred to a policy clause stating that the bike should not be given to another person to ride—despite my policy having a pool driver option, which provides open-driver coverage. The assessor assigned to my case, Vuyo, incorrectly interpreted this as a loophole to decline the claim. Rather than doing thorough due diligence, I had to explain my policy’s structure and coverage—something that should have been his responsibility.
2. Tracking Unit Failure: Tracker SA reported that my bike’s tracking unit was faulty and had last updated on the 10th of May 2025. Vuyo also claimed I was informed of this issue on the 16th of May but ignored it—while my bike was still with the mechanic. Since the bike was in a workshop, I knew the battery would be disconnected during maintenance, affecting the tracking system. When I received Tracker’s notification, I had no reason to panic, as the bike had not moved for more than 72 hours, consistent with being at a workshop. Unfortunately, MiWay used this technicality against me, despite the mechanic immediately informing me when the theft occurred on the 20th of May 2025.
MiWay and its assessor, Vuyo, have made this claim unnecessarily difficult, frustrating a loyal customer who trusted them for over a year. Instead of providing support during an unfortunate event, they have left me stranded, likely hoping that I push the case to the insurance ombudsman, causing further resolution delays and dragging out my distress, even though the case is straightforward.
The circumstances surrounding the tracker clause in my case are highly unusual. The bike was not in my possession but under the mechanic’s care, meaning I had little control over the battery disconnection or whether it signaled actual theft. Given these facts, MiWay’s refusal to honor my claim is unjustified. My claim is legitimate and deserves to be paid.
As much as Vuyo has confirmed that my claim will not be honored, he has not put it in writing as per my request, I therefore struggle to understand the reasons thereof. How do you expect me to take this up with the ombudsman if I have nothing to show for it? C'mmon!
