No debit order, no cover
I have been a client of MiWay for a long time, and I have always been generally happy with their service. However, the past few months have been making me question why I even maintain this relationship. I have not had I surance on my car for more than 2 months now, through no fault of my own. Apparently they can't get funds on my account when trying to debit, however, there are always funds available in that account for insurance.
Between the 17th of November, and today, 7 December, I have had to call them at least (it might be more) 3 times to try to have this resolved. The calls always end with a promise to have it resolved, however it doesn't happen.
In as much as it is the responsibility of the client to ensure that premiums are paid timeously to ensure cover, it is also the responsibility of the insurer to communicate when there are issues.
On the 17th of November, I learnt that I was not covered during October. This hadn't been communicated before. No calls, no text message, nothing. I requested that a pro rata amount be debited, along with changing my debit date. This didn't happen. On the 23rd and 26th of November, I called again to check on this, and still nothing. On the 26th, it was discovered that MiWay was trying to debit from an incorrect bank account (another complaint and story for another day). We changed those details, again a requested a pro rata amount to be debited for the insurance. Nothing. On the 1st of December, I called, after receiving a text message notifying me that my debit order didn't happen, quoting an incorrect debit order date. The person I spoke to promised to escale the matter. Apparently sent an email to his supervisor/manager, and promised to get back to me with the response. I have yet to get that response. Today, 7 December, I called again, and was informed that the debit didn't go through because of insufficient funds. But that isn't true. There are funds available. Apparently, another run was set for the premium to be deducted. Judging from what has been happening, I am not holding my breathe for this.
Should there be an accident, under these current situation, my expectation is that I will be covered as I have gone beyond in trying to get the premium to MiWay. I have also been informed that they don't do direct deposits/EFTs. The ball is completely on heir side in terms of receiving premiums, and when such happens, we as clients are comple9at their mercy.
