MiWay manipulating vulnerable people and misusing personal information
I received a phone call from a MiWay call centre representative yesterday. Usually I pay these types of calls no mind but this went too far. I have never given my information to MiWay in any way so they likely paid for it. What bothered me the most was that they were offering to give me quote so I can, according to them, save money during these difficult times. They are clearly misusing the pandemic to get more customers as they know people are easier to manipulate now. It's disgusting.
I declined to go ahead with the call as she was asking rapid-fire personal questions which I didn't want to continue answering and I said I was uncomfortable with the fact that they had that much information about me and that they were trying to give me a quote when I didn't want one. The worst part was the caller smirking and laughing on the other end as if what I was saying was funny to her. Extremely unprofessional.
On top of all that, I get an email from MiWay today surveying me about my experience getting a quote. Why? I never, ever, ever asked for a quote from them! I haven't even visited their website or contacted them in any way ever so why are they pretending I asked them for a quote?
MiWay is being manipulative and I warn everyone to please, please, please not fall for this cold calling campaign. They are taking advantage of the pandemic and providing the promise of money-saving to people who may have recently lost their jobs or who are not doing well because they know that people are now more likely to say "yes" to anything they suggest to them.
I would also never do business with a company that employs customer service representatives who openly laugh on a call when a customer expresses discomfort as it goes to show this process is a joke to them and just a way to manipulate vulnerable people.
