MiWay left me stranded on the highway

I have a comprehensive vehicle insurance policy with Miway for more than 2 years now and have been claim free my entire life. As a benefit of my cover I am covered for roadside assistance or so I was led to believe by the polciy documents I have received and the information availableon the Miway website. On Monday (20/02/2017) my car broke down on the highway, 46KM from my residence (I checked this using google maps) When I requested assistance from Miway I was informed that I am only covered for a tow of up to a 40km roundtrip which basically means 20km in the direction I want to go in and they will then count the 20km back. I was then requested to pay cash out of my pocket in order to get my car towed and if I don't have cash available, well then sorry they can't help me. I had to sort myself out as my insurer had hung me out to dry! On the 22/02/2017 when I requested clarity on this issue it was explained to me that the 40km towing linit is part of the terms and conditions therefore I asked for them to show me where it states there is a 40km limit, the person on the phone took a long time to answer me and eventually told me that in the policy wording it states "limited kilometeres" and also further to that it is not the responsibility of Miway as I need to contact the dealership where I bought my car to help me. I explained that my car is 8 years old and I don't have any dealings with the dealer, I pay a premium to Miway, I have a cover with Miway but no this guy kept telling me that I need to go to the dealer. I have gone back and studied the policy cover sheet, the policy wording and all the documentation I have to find this "limited kilomteres" or anything remotley close to "40km"...Nothing! There is nothing in the policy wording or my coversheet or my policy schedule that implies anything with regards to kilomteres, the only limit mentioned in a limit of R4000 for roadside assistance cover. I have contact a number of other insurers and confirmed that in the event of a breakdown they will tow me to my home for unlimited kilomteres or arrange for my safety by providing accomodation, pretty standard I think. Miway had directly put my family at risk, myself at risk and my vehicle at risk by leaving me on the side of the highway with bogus terms and conditions about towing limits. Will Miway respond to me as I have had no response after my telephonic complaint on 22/02/2017 or will I have to go to the ombud. What is the point of paying so much for comprehesive cover but acutally having no cover at all when it matters!

We are really sorry that we've let you down, this is not the kind of service we aim to deliver.

Ntokozo has been in touch to discuss your concerns with you in detail and he has explained to you how your cover works and the limitations there are to each tow. We are truly sorry that you were left stranded and had to arrange your own towing service. We completely understand how you feel and we really do apologise.

Best regards,
The MiWay Team
