Miway Insurance – Disappointed and Frustrated with Claim Handling

Review: Miway Insurance – Disappointed and Frustrated with Claim Handling

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with how Miway Insurance has handled my mother’s claim, *****. My mother has been a loyal customer of Miway for many years, but after the way our recent claim has been managed, I am seriously questioning the integrity and professionalism of this company.

To start with, our house was damaged by fire, and the building repairs were assigned to a contractor chosen by Miway—Masilela Enterprise. From the very beginning, it was clear that the contractor used **substandard materials and did poor-quality work. The repairs were rushed, and we are now dealing with faulty installations, such as electrical fittings that are not up to code, doors that trap moisture and don’t close properly, and cabinets that are falling apart. Miway Insurance has refused to cover these issues under the building cover, despite it being part of the claim, and we’re left with a constant cycle of repairs. This is a direct result of Miway’s choice of contractor, yet the company is passing the buck and giving us the runaround.

In addition to the building issues, the handling of the contents claim has been even more troubling. When we initially submitted the claim for our damaged belongings, it appeared that Miway ignored it entirely. After we called to follow up, we were told that the contents were insured for around R80,000, which was later confirmed to be a complete lie. The actual coverage was R106,000, and yet when we submitted an inventory of the damaged items—which amounted to R110,000—we were suddenly told about the average clause stating that we would only be paid R46,000.

This is absolutely ridiculous. The average clause is meant to be a fair reflection of the value of the items, but instead, it feels like Miway is doing everything possible to undervalue the claim. How can we go from an insured value of R106,000 to only receiving R46,000, which is less than half? This arbitrary reduction is completely unjustified and is leaving us with more questions than answers.

Finally, I cannot help but feel that Miway is taking advantage of my elderly, uneducated mother, simply because she does not have the resources to challenge their actions. It’s disheartening to see how Miway has treated her—with a total lack of respect and care for her situation. This feels like ************** based on age and perhaps even race, and it’s nothing short of exploitation.

If Miway Insurance thinks that they can get away with this and continue to treat my mother so unfairly, they are gravely mistaken. We are demanding that this claim be reviewed and settled properly. If this issue is not addressed immediately, I will have no choice but to take legal action and escalate this further.

To anyone considering Miway Insurance, I would strongly advise you to reconsider. This company has shown a complete lack of professionalism, accountability, and respect for its customers. We are beyond frustrated with their handling of this claim, and it’s been an incredibly stressful and disheartening experience.

It's surprising that I had to resort to putting my frustration on this platform to get such a prompt response, we have been trying to communicate all of our frustrations about this matter since June. 5 months later we are still dealing with the mess, my mothers mental health has been severe compromised, after such trauma of almost loosing her life in fire she still had to deal with fighting with you people. dissapointmet is really an understatement.
