LENGHTHY, STRESSFUL AND FINANCIALLY DRAINING CLAIM PROCESS

On 04 September 2022, I was hijacked and taken hostage by the hijackers. Pointed with a gun, I thought that it could be my last day alive and that I'd never see my 2yr old son and partner ever again. I was at the mercy of the hijackers. I am traumatized and have not been my true self since the hijacking. It's been difficult to move on, I'm always looking over my shoulder, thinking that it might happen again. I would not wish this experience on anyone else. I have to seek counselling so that I can heal and be able to be at peace.

I submitted a claim to MiWay on 05 September 2022. I submitted everything that they required from me. Their Assessor even came to fetch me so that I can show him where the hijacking took place. I have comp**** with every request that was made by MiWay, including signing of an affidavit to access my cellphone records, providing proof of sim swop and so on. The vehicle's instalment had to be paid after 3 weeks of the incident.

The hijacking on its own was traumatic. This lengthy process and unending requirements is very stressful and is a reminder everyday of the terrible day.

At first, I thought that it is MiWay's way of processing claims but after all that I have comp**** with and after almost a month, Miway has another requirement. They are summoning me to their offices but their assessor, Jean, has failed to give me a clear reason why I am being summoned to their offices.

Since the beginning of the claim, MiWay has been asking things from me but have not offered me anything in return. They did not even assist me with counselling to show that they care about my well being and that they understand that I have been through a traumatic experience. I have had to arrange the counselling myself.

Insurance companies are known for always looking for a loophole not to pay claims. It seems that is what MiWay is trying to get at. Consumers must be aware of these insurance tactics.

I have had been more than cooperative but it is time to get the Ombudsman involved.

Hi there, Kagiso. We're sorry to hear about your traumatic experience at the beginning of the month and the toll on your mental health. We don't like that our service to you as our client has been lengthy, stressful, and financially draining. This is not the level of service we strive for. We have escalated your complaint to our Customer Resolutions department and an agent will be in touch with you to put your mind at ease.

Best regards,
The MiWay Team
